Product photos want square clarity first

Marketplaces reward sharp, well-lit squares more than fancy banners. Pick the listing size for your channel, keep the product fully in frame, then crop before upload.

Use a square listing photo, not a feed crop

Pasting an Instagram 4:5 post into Amazon or Etsy often makes zoom look soft. Marketplaces want large squares with the product filling most of the frame—lifestyle feed crops are a different job.

Shoot or export a high-resolution square (around 2000×2000), then downscale per channel if needed. Keep promotional text off the main image when the marketplace bans overlays there.

Shop banners and homepage heroes are wide marketing strips. Crop them on their own guides—never as a stand-in for the primary listing photo.

Quick picks

Match the job to the row so you do not export the wrong ratio.

  • Amazon main image → 2000×2000 square, product-dominant.
  • Etsy or Shopify catalog → 2000–2048 square masters.
  • Facebook Marketplace → 1200×1200; not a Page cover.
  • TikTok Shop → 1200×1200 product tile.
  • Storefront hero only → Shopify hero or Etsy shop banner guides.

Frequently asked questions

What size should product images be?

Most major marketplaces prefer large squares. 2000×2000 is a strong shared master for Amazon and Etsy; Shopify often uses 2048×2048.

Can I use an Instagram post as my Amazon image?

Only after a fresh square crop. 4:5 feed photos leave empty bars or clip the product when forced into 1:1 zoom galleries.

Are shop banners the same as listing photos?

No. Banners are wide storefront headers. Listing photos are the SKU gallery—export them separately.

Do you upload my product photos?

Cropping runs in your browser. Download the file, then upload it in Seller Central, Etsy, Shopify, or the marketplace app yourself.
